ASTM C794 Standard Test Method for Adhesion-in-Peel of Elastomeric Joint Sealants (may be modified)
Testing is typically conducted on each substrate with and without primer for each sealant tested. Results are typically based on 14 day ambient condition cure, 1 day water immersion and 7 day water immersion.
ASTM C1087 Standard Test Method for Determining Compatibility of Liquid-Applied Sealants with Accessories Used in Structural Glazing Systems (may be modified)
This test method covers a laboratory screening procedure for determining the compatibility of liquid-applied structural sealant glazing sealants when in contact with accessories such as dry glazing gaskets, spacers, shims, and setting blocks after exposure to heat and ultraviolet light.
It is highly recommended that any gasket used as the spacer (in permanent and continuous contact with the structural silicone) in an SSG system be of 100% silicone composition. EPDM, Neoprene and other non-silicone rubber types are not recommended.
It is highly recommended that cushioning blocks (setting, side, etc) used in an SSG system be of 100% silicone composition. EPDM, Neoprene and other non-silicone rubber types are not recommended.
Stain testing is conducted to ASTM C 1248 (modified) Standard Test Method for Staining of Porous Substrate by Joint Sealants
Standard joint specimens are cured for 7 days then compressed and clamped at the manufacturer’s rated movement capability and subjected to the following treatments for 21 days:
standard conditions while under compression
oven while under compression
in a fluorescent UV/condensation device or in a xenon arc device while under compression
